With India crowned champions for the seventh time on Friday night, the 14th edition of the Asia Cup didn’t fail to disappoint with plenty of drama on the field.
All roads have led to Dubai International Stadium and Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium in the last fortnight as thousands witnessed the elite stars live.
With the competition done and dusted, we take a look at the best players over the course of the tournament.
BEST PLAYER
SHIKHAR DHAWAN (INDIA)
Although the Indian vice-captain couldn’t score big in the final against Bangladesh, Shikhar Dhawan was officially named man of the competition and it was easy to see why. The opening batsman finished the competition as the highest run-scorer with 342 runs – a figure that included two centuries. Both of those came in winning causes against Hong Kong (127) and Pakistan (114) with the latter setting them on their way to a convincing victory against their arch-rivals.
RASHID KHAN (AFGHANISTAN)
The only way is up for the 20-year-old who continues to be revelation with the ball. Is no stranger to the UAE conditions with Afghanistan playing their ‘home’ games here and worked that to his advantage as he caused havoc with the ball to finish joint top wicket-taker with 10 scalps.
MUSHFIQUR RAHIM (BANGLADESH)
Single-handedly delivered under pressure for the Tigers with two outstanding knocks with the bat (144 against Sri Lanka and 99 against Pakistan) – both of which ended in victories. If it wasn’t for his efforts, it could have been so different.
