D’Arcy Short wrote himself into the record books with a 148-ball 257 for Western Australia in their JLT One-Day Cup match against Queensland on Friday.

The left-handed opener struck a record 23 sixes in his innings to lead Western Australia to a 116-run win in Sydney.

Short’s innings of 257 is now the third-highest List A score in history and the highest one-day score on Australian soil.

The current record for the highest List A score belongs to Ali Brown, who struck 268 for Surrey in 2002 against Glamorgan while Rohit Sharma’s 264 for India against Sri Lanka in 2014 is the second best.

The Australia opener reached his 100, 150, 200 and 250 in the innings with the help of sixes. He took 83 deliveries to notch up his century before taking only 45 balls to score his next 100 runs.

The 23 sixes slammed by Short in his innings is the joint-highest ever for a List A match with New Zealand’s Colin Munro being the other batsman to record the same.

His plundering innings is all the more remarkable given he fact that Marcus Stoinis’ 27 was the second-best individual score in Western Australia’s 387 in 47 overs.

The 28-year-old batsman has so far played three ODIs and 10 T20s for Australia since making his international debut against Pakistan in February this year.

He had recorded the most runs by a batsman in any single Big Bash League (BBL) edition by notching up 572 runs in 11 innings for Hobart Hurricanes in 2017-18.
