The Afghanistan pair of Rashid Khan and Asghar Afghan along with Pakistan’s Hasan Ali were all handed a demerit point as well as fined 15 per cent of their match fee after being found guilty of breaching ICC’s Code of Conduct in the Asia Cup Super Four clash between the two sides at Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Pakistan edged Afghanistan by three wickets in a thrilling contest which went down to the final over in what was the first Super Four clash for both teams.

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali was sanctioned for threatening to throw the ball towards Afghanistan batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi during the 33rd over of the innings while Rashid Khan was punished for giving a raised-finger send-off to Asif Ali.

Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan was found guilty of brushing Hasan Ali’s shoulders while attempting a run.

Ace spinner Rashid was guilty of breaching Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players which relates to ‘using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match’.

Both Hasan and Asghar were found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players which pertains to ‘conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game’.

The three players have pleaded guilty to the charges brought upon them and have accepted the sanctions imposed by match referee Andy Pycroft.

This is the first transgression for both Rashid and Hasan and the second in 24 months for Asghar.
