England pacer Stuart Broad has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee and awarded one ICC demerit point for his sendoff to India debutant Rishabh Pant during the first innings in the third Test at Trent Bridge.

Broad was found to have breached Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match”.

The Level 1 offence carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of the match fee along with one or two demerit points.

The incident occurred early on day two of the ongoing Test when Broad dismissed Pant for 24 in India’s first innings. After Pant played on to his stumps to be dismissed for 24, the England pacer could be seen giving the young batsman an aggressive sendoff.

No official hearing was required for the matter with Broad admitting to the offence and accepting the sanctions imposed on him by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe.

India are currently one wicket from victory at Trent Bridge after setting England a mammoth target of 521 to get in the final innings. The hosts will resume their second innings at 311-9 with Adil Rashid and James Anderson as the unbeaten batsmen.
