India came up with a good batting performance against England in the third Test at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

India skipper Virat Kohli missed his century by three runs as the visitors were well-placed at 279-5.

England skipper Joe Root won the toss and elected to bowl first. Dhawan and KL Rahul have made a watchful start for India and added 60 runs for the first wicket. Woakes struck twice to reduce India to 65-2.

Post lunch, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane stitched together a steady partnership with the former notching up his 18th Test half-century. The pair took India to 189-3 when before tea was taken on day one.

The two continued their fine form in the final session, taking their stand past 150 and and the score to 236-3. Rahane fell for 81, caught at slip off Stuart Broad.

There was heartbreak for Kohli as he was dismissed for 97 by Adil Rashid.
