The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) could be set for a shake up with current members Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman likely to step down from their roles.
According to a report by the Indian Express, the BCCI is set to appoint a new CAC whose members will be honorary instead of being paid.
Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman currently serve in paid positions of the CAC and they will be allowed to continue in their roles once they have adhered to BCCI’s conflict of interest rules.
At present, Ganguly serves as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and he would need to step down from that role if he intends to continue as a member of the CAC. Similarly, Laxman serves as a mentor to IPL outfit Sunrisers Hyderabad and he would need to resign from that role in order to continue in the CAC.
In Tendulkar’s case, the maestro will need to recuse himself from the CAC as long as his son Arjun remains in contention for India’s U19 squad.
The CAC currently recommends names for the various selection panels along with coaches for the India men’s and women’s teams. The new CAC body is likely to be elected during BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Both Ganguly and Tendulkar have a conflict of interest in their roles.
In its final order on the Lodha Panel recommendations for the functioning of the BCCI on Thursday, the Supreme Court of India stated that the CAC will continue to recommend names for the various selections panels in consultation with the CoA (Committee of Administrators).
“Until the elections to the BCCI take place, the CoA is empowered to consult with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising reputed former international cricketers and to constitute a committee of selectors,” the order had stated.
“The Men’s Selection Committee shall consist of five persons to be appointed by a Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of reputed former international cricketers identified by the BCCI at the Annual General Meeting.”
