James Anderson picked up the wickets of Murali Vijay and KL Rahul within the first seven overs of the Lord’s Test before Cheteshwar Pujara was run out after a mix-up with captain Virat Kohli.

When rain forced India and England off the field yet again after lunch, the visitors were staring down the barrel at 15-3. Play did resume eventually, after an extended period of delay. Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were beginning to form a promising partnership before the former was dismissed by Chris Woakes for 24 to reduce India to 49-4.

The England pacer would strike again soon after as Hardik Pandya became his second victim. India lost their sixth wicket shortly after when Dinesh Karthik was castled by Sam Curran. Rahane would then become the seventh batsman to fall as Anderson returned to pick up his third wicket of the day. The veteran England pacer then made it four scalps to his name after trapping Kuldeep Yadav plumb in front of the wicket. In the very next over, Stuart Broad got his name on the wicket-takers list after he dismissed Ravi Ashwin in similar fashion.

Anderson would then complete his five-wicket haul when he dismissed Ishant Sharma for a duck.

England won the toss and decided to bowl first on the second day of the second Test against India at Lord’s.

Friday was effectively the opening day of the Test after rain ruined the entire day’s play on Thursday.

Joe Root went in for the reliable seam bowling of Chris Woakes who replaces Ben Stokes, facing trail in the Bristol brawl case.

India made two changes to the side with one-down batsman Cheteshwar Pujara replacing out-of-form opener Shikhar Dhawan and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav coming in for pacer Umesh Yadav.

England lead the five-match series 1-0 after their 31 run win in Birmingham.
