India fast bowler Ishant Sharma picked up five wickets as the visitors dismissed England for 180 in the first Test in Birmingham, getting a target of 194 to win the match.

Off-spinner Ravi Ashwin picked up three top order wickets before Ishant Sharma dismissed Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes in the last over before lunch with the hosts at 86-6. Post lunch, it took only two balls for Ishant to strike again with Jos Buttler edging behind.

Thereafter, seamer Sam Curran (63) fought back with a defiant knock as England went from 87-7 to 180 all out. Ishant finished with 5-51.

In reply, England snared five wickets before India reached 100 to set up the game beautifully with Stuart Broad picking up two wickets.

India finished the day on 110-5 with captain Virat Kohli batting on 43.
