ICC confirms postponed Test between Pakistan and New Zealand following Phil Hughes’ death

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Pakistan and New Zealand have agreed to suspend Thursday’s play in Sharjah following the death of Australia batsman Phillip Hughes.

As a mark of respect both sides have decided to treat the second day of the Test as a rest day and extend the match to 1 December, which will be the final day of the three-Test series.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan expressed how deeply saddened the whole nation was with the passing away of Hughes.

“It’s a sad day for cricket. We share the grief of Phil Hughes’ untimely and tragic death with his friends and family, and also with our friends in Cricket Australia. Pakistan’s cricketing fraternity is saddened by Hughes’ passing away. All our thoughts and prayers are with Phil and his family.”

 

 

 

 

 

Pakistan Team Manager Moin Khan also expressed condolences on behalf of the Pakistan team.

“We are saddened and shocked at Phil Hughes’ untimely death. The entire team is sad and we send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Phil Hughes.

“Hughes was here as part of the Australian squad last month, and we found him to be a cheerful and friendly person. This is indeed a tragedy, and we share in the grief of his family and our Aussie mates”.
