Batsman Alex Hales will miss the rest of England’s one-day series with India due to a torn muscle in his left side, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced.

The opening batsman was left out of Thursday’s defeat because of a side injury he sustained while batting in practice on Wednesday.

The ECB said that would be monitoring the 29-year-old’s situation but confirmed the Nottinghamshire man will miss Saturday’s match at Lord’s and Tuesday’s finale at Headingley.

“Alex Hales has a torn left side strain, he will be out for three to four weeks and misses the rest of the series,” said the spokesman.
