Australia‘s Pakistan-born leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed has been signed up by the Trinbago Knight Riders for the 2018 Caribbean Premier League after Pakistan star leg-spinner Shadab Khan was no longer available for the tournament.

The CPL 2018 will run from August 8 to September 16 with Ahmed set to prove his mettle in the Caribbean.

An experienced leg-spinner, the 36-year-old Ahmed has represented Australia five times in limited-overs cricket and has played T20 cricket for Sydney Thunder and the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. In all, Ahmed has 35 T20 wickets at an average of 28 and an economy of seven.

Talking about the signing of Ahmed, Venky Mysore, director of TKR, said: “We were hugely disappointed to lose out on Shadab for this year’s tournament but Fawad is a fantastic replacement. As a bowler who can turn the ball both ways we are sure he will be a fantastic addition to the TKR squad for the 2018 season.”
