Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Perera will bat if required in the third Test against the West Indies in Barbados after he was discharged from hospital following a nasty fall at the boundary.

Perera was rushed to hospital on Monday after crashing into the advertising hoarding while attempting a catch off last man Shannon Gabriel with the score on 82-9. Perera landed on the edge of the hoarding and lay motionless as team-members and medical staff rushed to attend to him.

Perera was discharged from hospital and the Sri Lankan management said the batsman will bat if needed.

“Perera was discharged from the hospital after scans cleared him. He has been advised to rest. He will bat if required tomorrow,” a Sri Lanka Cricket official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Sri Lanka find themselves in a tricky situation as they are five wickets down for 81 chasing 144 in the day-night Test.

In all, 20 wickets fell on a manic Day Three at Bridgetown with the West Indies shot out for 93 – the side’s lowest ever score against Sri Lanka, and their lowest at the Kensington Oval.

This after the West Indies had started the day in a strong position, capitalising on their first innings total of 204 by dismissing the tourists for 154.
