Sri Lanka’s debutant pacer Kasun Rajitha picked up a wicket just before lunch as the West Indies inched towards the visitors’ 253 on the second day of the second Test in St Lucia on Friday.

Rajitha – one of four changes made to the team after Sri Lanka lost the Trinidad Test by 226 runs – exploited opener Kraigg Brathwaite’s uncertainty outside off-stump.

Brathwaite was caught behind twice in the first Test and the West Indies vice-captain nicked one behind once again to keeper Niroshan Dickwella, giving 25-year-old Rajitha his maiden wicket. Brathwaite made 22 from 79 deliveries in an opening stand of 59.

After his twin failures first Test, Devon Smith made 50 as the West Indies reached 105 for one at the tea break.

Although he went wicketless, Sri Lankan seamer Lahiru Kumara again impressed with pace and accuracy. Kumara picked up seven wickets in the first Test and led the attack in the absence of veteran left-arm spinner Rangana Herath.
