David Warner has accepted the sanctions handed out to him by Cricket Australia in the ball-tampering scandal and will not be appealing them.

The former Australia vice-captain was stripped of his post and handed a 12-month cricket ban by the board after the outrage over the ball-tampering episode. The scandal had occurred during the third Test between South Africa and Australia at Newlands in Cape Town.

Following an investigation by Cricket Australia, Warner and skipper Steve Smith were both handed 12-month bans by the board while Cameron Bancroft was suspended for nine months.

Both Smith and Bancroft had accepted the sanctions imposed against them while Warner was yet to make a decision.

On Thursday morning, the left-hander took to Twitter to announce that he had accepted his punishment and will not be contesting the charges.

“I have today let Cricket Australia know that I fully accept the sanctions imposed on me. I am truly sorry for my actions and will now do everything I can to be a better person, teammate and role model,” Warner wrote in his tweet.

The 31-year-old has also lost his lucrative IPL contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad as a ramification of the ball-tampering saga. He also had his sponsorship deals with LG, ASICs and Milo rescinded in the aftermath of the scandal.

Rumours continue to circulate that Warner will “tell-all” in an exclusive AUD$1million interview for Australian television.
