South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada will learn the fate of his appeal for the two-match suspension handed out to him pretty soon after the ICC confirmed the date for the hearing on March 18.

The ICC on Friday confirmed that Michael Heron of New Zealand had been appointed as the Judicial Commissioner for the hearing which will take place via video conference.

Rabada had contested two charges against him levied during the second Test at Port Elizabeth. The first was a Level two offence for brushing Australia skipper Steve Smith’s shoulders after dismissing him in the first innings while the second was for giving David Warner an aggressive sendoff.

Match referee Jeff Crowe had found the young pacer to be guilty on both counts, docking him 50 per cent of his match fees along with adding three demerit points to his name. This meant that Rabada, who was already had five demerit points to his name coming into the match, was automatically suspended for two Tests and ruled out for the remainder for the series.

The South African camp however decided to contest the Level two charge while accepting the 15 per cent for the other. With Heron expected to arrive at a conclusion within 48 hours of the hearing, Rabada could be available to play in the third Test which starts on Thursday.

The 22-year-old, who reclaimed the top ICC Test bowler ranking this week, had returned with match-winning figures of 11-150 to help the Proteas level the four-match series at 1-1.
