It has been a fabulous 2017 so far for Virat Kohli, both individually and as skipper of the Indian team.

The batting maestro, who turned 29-years-old on Sunday, celebrated his birthday with his team-mates and support staff in the dressing room after India’s 40-run loss to New Zealand in the second T20I at Rajkot.

The right-hander became the fastest batsman to the 9,000-run mark in ODI cricket, taking only 194 innings to do. In the process he became only the sixth batsman from India to have breached the figure.

With his two centuries against New Zealand in the recently concluded one-day series, the Indian skipper has now overtaken Australia great Ricky Ponting to sit behind only Sachin Tendulkar in the list of the batsman with most ODI tons.

Kohli has 32 hundreds to his name, second only to Tendulkar’s remarkable 49 tons.

In 2017, the batting genius has recorded 1460 runs already at a staggering average of 76.84 and an equally astounding strike-rate of 99.11.

Virat Kohli has already amassed six ODI ton in 2017.

In addition to the above, Kohli has amassed six ODI centuries in the calendar year alone. The Delhi-born superstar’s batting average of 55.74 in the one-day format is the highest among players, both present and past.

As skipper, Kohli’s 1460 runs in the calendar year is the highest among all his present and past counterparts in the game.

The stylish batsman has also levelled MS Dhoni’s record of nine consecutive wins in ODI cricket. Under his stewardship, team India has completed bilateral series wins over England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand while finishing runner-up in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Kohli has led India to the top of the ICC Test rankings and ODI rankings in the calendar year while he himself has topped the individual batsmen rankings in the one-day format.

All in all, it has been a year to remember for Virat Kohli and with many years of cricket still left in him, there will be more milestones and records which shall tumble along the way as the Indian superstar continues to entertain.
