India skipper Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) to not consider him for selection in the December leg of the bilateral series against Sri Lanka citing personal reasons.

If Kohli’s request is granted, it could see him miss the final Test against the islanders along with the limited-over matches.

India are scheduled to play three Tests followed by as many ODIs and T20Is against the visiting Sri Lankans with the tour ranging from November 16 to December 24.

The BCCI Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad announced India’s squad for the first two Tests on Monday with Kohli continuing to lead the line.

The batting sensation had spoken about the need to rotate players consistently in the wake of India playing non-stop cricket in the last few months after his side’s loss to New Zealand in the first ODI on Sunday.

With overseas tours of South Africa and England lined up soon in the coming months, Kohli emphasized on the need of not burning out key players.

Yes, we have spoken about the schedule, it’s become quite hectic. That’s something we will definitely have to sit and discuss in future. If you look at New Zealand, they haven’t played any cricket after Champions Trophy. There has been such a good lay off. It can be the difference in doing well in a big tournament and performing poorly,” the skipper said.

The full series against Sri Lanka was squeezed in at the last minute by the BCCI with the tour of South Africa being curtailed by one Test.

India have had a hectic schedule since the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this summer. Since then they have toured the West Indies and Sri Lanka along with hosting Australia and now New Zealand.

In comparison Kane Williamson’s New Zealand were playing their first match since their Champions Trophy exit in England.
