India opener Shikhar Dhawan made a stunning comeback to Test cricket as he scored a 168-ball 190 on day one of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.

Although he managed to post his highest Test score, the 31-year-old was disappointed to have not got a double century after being so close to the landmark.

He also added that as he was batting so well, he was confident that he would be able to clear the mid-off fielder when talking about his dismissal.

“Of course I was disappointed that I got out for 190, I would have loved to have scored a 200,” Dhawan was quoted as saying by AFP.

“But more than that, I got out at the wrong time. It was the last over before tea. But the way I was playing, I was confident that I could clear the mid-off fielder and I was almost hitting a boundary per over.

“I was in that zone and I backed myself. Unfortunately, it didn’t go my way.”

On the back of Dhawan’s superb knock, India managed to get to 399-3 at the end of the day’s play with Cheteshwar Pujara still batting on 144. Dhawan and Pujara put on a 253-run partnership for the second wicket which really set the platform for a big score for the visitors.
