How a meeting with Shane Warne helped Kuldeep Yadav dismiss David Warner

Indian left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav made a dream start to his Test career as he picked up four wickets in Australia’s first innings in the fourth Test at Dharamsala on Saturday.

Handed his Test cap by former Indian leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan earlier in the day, Kuldeep impressed everyone with his variations and even managed to outbowl senior spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Speaking after the end of play on day one, Kuldeep mentioned that he had learnt the flipper – which he used to dismiss David Warner – from Australian great Shane Warne.

“Did you see the first wicket? That was not a chinaman. It was a flipper which I learnt from Shane Warne. So learning from Warne and then getting his countryman out is a nice feeling,” said Kuldeep.

The 22-year-old had met Warne when the latter was in Pune for commentary during the first Test of the series.

Kuldeep, in fact, considers Warne as his idol. He added that Warne has promised to have another session with him in the near future.

“My idol is Shane Warne and I have followed him since my childhood. I only watch his videos and it was a dream-come-true when I met him,” said Kuldeep.

“I could not believe I was speaking to my idol and sharing my thoughts on bowling and what all I should be doing. I did exactly what he told me to do. He has promised that he will have another session with me in near future.”
