The International Cricket Council [ICC] have released a statement regarding the DRS incident involving Australia captain Steve Smith and India captain Virat Kohli during the second Test in Bengaluru.

The ICC have decided to take no action on the two players, but the match referee will speak to both of them before the next Test in Ranchi.

On day four of the second Test, Smith was given out leg-before-wicket off the bowling of Umesh Yadav and was in a discussion with non-striker Peter Handscomb.

After some indecision and a suggestion from Handscomb, Smith looked at the away dressing room for pointers which is not allowed.

Smith had called the incident as a “brain fade”, but Kohli suggested after the match that the visitors had used the method previously in the Test.

In the statement, ICC Chief Executive David Richardson referred to the Bengaluru Test as a magnificent game of Test cricket and encouraged both teams to focus on the next match.

“We have just witnessed a magnificent game of Test cricket where players from both teams gave their all and emotions were running high during and after the match,” said Richardson.

“We would encourage both teams to focus their energies on the third Test in Ranchi next week. Ahead of that, the match referee will bring both Captains together to remind them of their responsibilities to the game.”

The Ranchi Test begins on March 16.
