Steve O’Keefe produced some fine bowling to pick up six wickets for just 35 runs in the first Test against India at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Friday.

In the process, O’Keefe registered the sixth best bowling figures by an Australian spinner in India in Test cricket.

There was some criticism of O’Keefe’s selection in the Australian XI for the Test, but he answered his critics in style, picking up six scalps during a period in which India lost seven wickets for just 11 runs.

The best bowling figures by an Australian spinner in India is held by Jason Krejza who picked up eight wickets for 215 runs in a Test at Nagpur in 2008.

As you can see in the image above and below, others on the list include Richie Benaud (7-72), Nathan Lyon (7-94), Jim Higgs (7-143) and Michael Clarke (6-9).

Only five better spells from Aussie spinners in India than O’Keefe’s.

What did you think of O’Keefe’s performance? Do you think India have any chance of getting back into the game?
