India crowned T20 Blind World Cup champions after beating Pakistan in final

Prakash Jayaramaiah starred with an unbeaten 99 to guide India to an emphatic nine-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the T20 World Cup for the Blind in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Jayaramaiah was named the man of the match for his knock which came from 60 deliveries and included 15 fours.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bat first. Inspired by a half-century by opening batsman Badar Munir, Pakistan managed to put on a total of 197-8 from their 20 overs.

Ketan Patel and Mohammad Jaffar Iqbal were the pick of the Indian bowlers, accounting for two wickets apiece.

In reply, India’s opening duo of Jayaramaiah and Ajay Kumar Reddy scored 110 runs for the first wicket, in just ten overs, before Reddy was run-out for 43.

Patel, coming into bat at number three, scored a 13-ball 26 before he had to retire hurt. Dunna Venkatesh was there at the end alongside Jayaramaiah as India completed a famous victory.

This is India’s second triumph in the T20 World Cup for the Blind, having won the inaugural tournament in 2012.

Pakistan 197-8, 20 overs [Munir 57, Muhammad Jamil 24, Patel 2/29] lost to India 200-1, 17.4 overs [Jayaramaiah 99*, Reddy 43] by nine wickets.
