KKR coach Bayliss to make ‘big decision’ if England come calling

Kolkata Knight Riders coach Trevor Bayliss insists he is happy working with the IPL franchise but admits he would face a “big decision” if England came calling.

Australian Bayliss, who also coaches in his homeland, is in the running to become the new England head coach after Andy Flower decided to step down following a disastrous winter tour Down Under.

Bayliss faces competition from a number of high profile candidates, with former head coach Peter Moores; current one-day and T20 boss Ashley Giles and Nottinghamshire coach Mike Newell all in the running for the new post that would see the successful candidate head up all senior England teams.

Giles had been the favourite to take over the reins but a disappointing T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, that culminated in his side losing embarassing fashion to Holland, has cast doubt on his suitability for the role.

“I’m not sure what’s happening there but I’ll find out in due course," Bayliss said ahead of KKR’s opening IPL 7 game in Abu Dhabi against Mumbai Indians.

"I’m very happy — and I’ve told this to the England people as well — I’m very happy doing what I’m doing with KKR and at home in Australia, where I coach the Sydney Sixers and the New South Wales team in the four-day and one-day competitions.

“If England offer me that position in the next few weeks or so then I’ll have to make a big decision but it will come down to not just a cricket decision but a family decision as well.

“But from a KKR point of view I couldn’t be happier, it’s a very good franchise, a very family-oriented franchise and it’s just a good feel.”
