Virat Kohli continued from where he had left off on day three, with another splendid display of batting to bring up his third career Test double century against England at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

The Indian captain was ably supported by Jayant Yadav, who scored his maiden Test hundred, as the duo added 241 runs for the eighth wicket.

England, in their second innings, were reduced to 182/6 – still 49 runs away from erasing India’s lead. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow showed some fight in the final session with both scoring half-centuries for the visitors.

As expected, there was a lot of praise for Kohli on Twitter with Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene describing the Delhi batsman’s innings as “one of the the best knocks in Test cricket”. Former South African fast bowler Allan Donald wondered if Kohli could come close to breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s Test records in the future.

Jayant’s innings also received applause on social media with former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif calling him the “find of the year’.

Despite England’s troubles, Root was one batsman who showed his class with a brilliant 77 on day four after taking the attack to the Indian spinners. His knock found appreciation as well.

Here, we look at the top tweets of the day.
