England have won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch which much like Visakhapatnam is expected to get worse for batting as the match progresses.

India have handed a debut to Karun Nair who comes in place of KL Rahul who exaggerated his hamstring injury at Visakhapatnam. Regular wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha is also injured and has been replaced in the XI by Parthiv Patel, who is making his first Test appearance in over eight years.

England, on the other hand, have made three changes – with Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes and Gareth Batty replacing Ben Duckett, Stuart Broad and Zafar Ansari.
