Just like in the first ODI of the series, Veda Krishnamurthy starred with the bat while Rajeshwari Gayakwad impressed with the ball as India beat West Indies by 15 runs to complete a 3-0 series whitewash at Vijayawada.

Chasing a target of 200, the West Indians looked to be in the driver’s set as their score read 166/4 in the 45th over. That was when Merissa Aguilleira was run-out after a good piece of fielding from India’s Deepti Sharma and the match turned on its head.

From there, the visitors slumped to 184 all out, losing their last six wickets for just 18 runs. Gayakwad picked up figures of 4/34, which took her tally of wickets for the series to nine.

Earlier in the day, West Indian skipper Stafanie Taylor had won the toss and put India into bat first. The Indians lost wickets at regular intervals and never really got much momentum going during the first half of their innings.

Krishnamurthy, who came into bat at number five with the run-rate below three, added impetus to the Indian innings and took India’s total near the 200-run mark. The Karnataka batswoman would score 71 runs from just 79 deliveries.

Debutant Devika Vaidya also played an important part in India’s win – scoring 32 crucial runs with the bat and then dismissing the dangerous Deandra Dottin during the West Indian chase.

The two teams will now battle it out in a three-match T20I series at the same venue, starting on Friday.

BRIEF SCORES

India [Krishnamurthy 71, Chedean Nation 2/21] beat West Indies [Kycia Knight 55, Gayakwad 4/34] by 15 runs.
