England’s James Anderson could be fit for the second Test against India, after previous reports suggested the premier fast bowler was likely to miss the entire Test series.

The pacer, who flew to India to join the England team last week, told Sky Sports that he is hopeful of playing in the second Test which begins on November 17.

“I had a good week at Loughborough last week, bowling to get some overs under my belt. Hopefully I can keep that going this week and get some miles into my legs to make sure I’m as fit as I can be and maybe be fit for the second Test,” said Anderson.

Anderson is England’s most successful Test bowler ever, with 463 wickets to his name at an average of 28.28. He is currently ranked third on the ICC Test Rankings for Bowlers.

The 34-year-old’s record against India is even more impressive, having taken 82 scalps in 19 Tests at 26.93. In the 2012 Test series between the two sides in India, Anderson picked up crucial wickets in the Kolkata Test which enabled England to register a famous Test series win.

“It is still over a week away. It is hard to say right now, but it will all depend on how this week goes. I’m sure in the next two of three days we will have a good idea of whether that is a possibility or not,” Anderson added.

“At first we thought maybe missing four Tests was a possibility, but the way I have progressed over the last two or three weeks has been positive.”
