Indian skipper MS Dhoni praised his bowlers after India registered a 190-run win to take the five-match ODI series 3-2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA, Visakhapatnam.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Indian batsmen managed to put up 269/6 in their 50 overs. New Zealand, in reply, were bowled out for just 79, with leg-spinner Amit Mishra picking up five wickets for 18 runs.

“One of the best performances by the bowlers. One of the pitches where bowlers bowled with a lot of assistance. There was a bit of dew, but what was important was the pace at which they bowled,” Dhoni said.

“The fast bowlers gave us the breakthrough and then the spinners bowled well. The good thing is that Mishra bowls slow so even if you commit a mistake, you can recover.”

Dhoni was pleased with the performances of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom who scored half-centuries. Kohli scored 65, while Rohit scored a 65-ball 70 despite suffering an injury during his knock.

“Virat was good, there was a time when Rohit got injured but once he got out, he had given us the momentum. What’s important was to respect the conditions. Considering the dew factor, you always have to get some extra runs,” said the Indian captain.

The 35-year-old also mentioned that he was happy with the young players who were given an opportunity in this series.

“I felt there is plenty that players like Axar and Jadhav would have learnt from this series. We have to give time to the youngsters, there are a few ways they approach the game. The IPL way, where you keep hitting and chase down the target. But they will learn things with time. You need to respect the game,” he added.
