England’s 22-run win over Bangladesh has certainly not impressed former skipper Michael Vaughan, who fears the Alastair Cook-led side might lose their upcoming Test series against India by a 5-0 margin if they play in a similar manner.

In a closely fought encounter, England beat Bangladesh on the final day of the first Test in Chittagong thanks to an outstanding all-round performance from Ben Stokes. This was the smallest margin by which Bangladesh have ever lost a Test.

Speaking to the BBC, the Ashes-winning captain said: “If they perform like they did against Bangladesh, it’ll be 5-0. It doesn’t matter who goes first. England for such a long time are always 30 or 40 for three. If they’re 30 or 40 for three against India, they’ll get blown away.

“Yes, you celebrate a win, but hopefully England, in the background, are being honest with themselves that they can play better.”

England will tour India for a five-match Test series next month. The Indian team, led by Virat Kohli, are high on confidence after whitewashing New Zealand 3-0 which propelled them to the number one spot on the ICC Test Rankings.

Interestingly, in 2012, Vaughan had predicted that England would get whitewashed after India had won the first Test at Ahmedabad. England, though, would go on to make a memorable comeback and win the series 2-1.
