Rohit Sharma produced a fine knock, probably the best of his Test career so far, to put India in the driver’s seat in the second Test against New Zealand at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Coming into bat at 43/4, Rohit – along with Virat Kohli – brought some respectability to the Indian scorecard. Despite Kohli’s dismissal for 45, Rohit carried on to score 82, his highest Test score since 2013.

Just like in India’s first innings, Wriddhiman Saha was on hand to add valuable runs in the lower middle-order. The Bengal wicket-keeper was unbeaten on 39 at the end of day’s play.

Earlier in the day, Jeetan Patel gave Kohli and co. some headaches as he scored a run-a-ball 47 and added 60 runs for the eighth wicket with BJ Watling. New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 204, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami picking up five and three wickets respectively.
