Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who wasn’t picked for the first Test at Kanpur, was the star bowler for India as he ended the day with figures of 5/33 as New Zealand trail India by 188 runs with just three wickets remaining.

Earlier in the day, just like in the Kanpur Test, India’s lower-order frustrated the Kiwis as the hosts managed to finish with 316 after being 239/7 at stumps on day one. Wriddhiman Saha registered his first half-century in Indian conditions.

Some afternoon rain meant that the Indian bowlers could get in just 34 overs on the day, but some accurate bowling from Bhuvneshwar meant that India are in the driver’s seat as they aim to wrap up the series having won the first Test.
