India completed the formalities on day five as they picked up the remaining six New Zealand wickets to go 1-0 ahead in the three-match Test series.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the star performer with the ball for India again, picking up his 19th five-wicket haul in only his 37th Test. He ended with figures of 6/132 and registered another 10-wicket match haul.

Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner put up a bit of resistance as both registered half-centuries, but it wasn’t enough as the Kiwis succumbed to defeat just after lunch.

Ravindra Jadeja was named the Man of the Match for his brilliant all-round performance. He was unbeaten with 42 and 50 with the bat, and picked up six wickets in the match.
