New Zealand were in the driver’s seat after an unbeaten 117-run stand from Tom Latham and captain Kane Williamson saw them end day two of the first Test at Kanpur at 152/1.

The Kiwis trail the Indian first innings score by 166 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Williamson and Latham both registered half-centuries as heavy rain in the afternoon meant that only 54 overs could be bowled on the day. Williamson and Latham ended the day unbeaten on 65 and 56 respectively.

Umesh Yadav was the sole wicket-taker for India as he trapped Martin Guptill leg-before-wicket for 21.

Earlier, some lusty blows from Ravindra Jadeja had helped India add 27 valuable runs to their overnight score before they were bowled out for 318.
