A youthful New Zealand head to South Africa to take on the hugely experienced hosts in a two Test series.

This first match will be an enormous test for both sides at very different stages of their evolution.

The tourists had the better of things on day one as South Africa, after winning the toss and electing to bat, limped to 236-8 by stumps.

Neil Wagner was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers, claiming 3-47.
