David Warner’s first century outside of his homeland led Australia to a 36-run victory over South Africa in the Tri-Nations Series in the West Indies.
Warner struck 11 fours and added two maximums in a 120-ball 109 and was offered support by half-centuries from Usman Khawaja (59) and Steve Smith (52no) as Australia made 288 for six.
Australia’s bowlers then took centre stage with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa claiming three wickets each as South Africa collapsed from 210 for three to 252 all out.
Quinton de Kock pulled Hazlewood straight to deep square leg for 19 but looked to be in control as Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis took them to 140 for one before Amla fell 60, caught by Smith at cover off Hazlewood.
The ball then started to reverse swing and Australia took advantage with du Plessis slicing Starc to backward point for 63.
Hazlewood then got one to dart back in and bowl AB de Villiers for 39 to signal the collapse.
JP Duminy soon followed, sweeping Zampa to deep mid-wicket for 41 and Zampa then removed Farhan Behardien (4) and Wayne Parnell (3) cheaply.
Kyle Abbott was done by Starc’s reverse swing before Aaron Phangiso was caught well by substitute fielder Glenn Maxwell at point off Starc and Imran Tahir run out to end the game.
Earlier, Aaron Finch departed early, bowled trying to sweep Tahir for 13 before Warner and Khawaja put on 136 for the second wicket.
Warner pulled Parnell straight to midwicket after the drinks break and Khawaja was undone sweeping Phangiso to be caught by Amla at short fine leg.
George Bailey was lbw to Tahir for 11 and Mitchell Marsh slogged to deep midwicket for 10 as South Africa rallied.
Smith steadied the Australian ship however to guide them to a challenging target that proved enough.
