Netherlands captain Peter Borren against breaking away from ICC

DHARAMSALA, India — Netherlands captain Peter Borren says the associate nations have not discussed their current place in world cricket but admits “it’s a possibility”.

Earlier this week, Borren hit out at the ICC for their treatment of associate sides and bemoaned the fact that his side has just two further international matches scheduled for 2016.

His sentiments echoed those of his coach Anton Roux, who called for further opportunities for the smaller members.

Borren even exchanged comments with Indian cricket journalist Harsha Bhogle on Twitter and tweeted his frustration at the way rain effectively removed 10 percent of their fixtures for the coming year this week.

He is not alone, those views shared by the majority of the associate camps.

But as of yet, the shared frustration has not turned into action.

“There hasn’t been anything formally discussed,” said Borren in his final post-match press conference of the 2016 World T20.

“Maybe it’s not a coincidence that we all feel the same way. We haven’t come together and had that discussion. Whether or not we should or not is a possibility but we’re pretty much singing off the same hymn sheet anyway.”

Some quarters have called on the associates to take a stand if they are further marginalised by the ICC but when asked by Sport360 if he or any of his peers had discussed breaking away from the sport’s governing body, Borren responded with a resounding “no”.
