New Zealand head into the tournament without talismanic skipper Brendon McCullum in search of their first world title. Minus their star wicket-keeper batsman, the task will be tough for a side who have made huge strides across all formats under McCullum’s leadership.
In his place, will be captain Kane Williamson who has been in inspired form across all three formats, as has Martin Guptill, and both have a big role to play.
Ross Taylor will provide valuable experience, while the likes of Colin Munro and Corey Anderson are match winners with the bat.
Seamers Tim Southee and Trent Boult are reliable and they will be supported by a potent spin attack.
The Kiwis have picked offie Nathan McCullum, leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and left-armer Mitchell Santner and a lot will be asked of them if New Zealand are to go the distance.
They are in superb form heading to India and have won four of their last five T20Is in series victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
What will be of concern for New Zealand supporters, however, will be their lack of practice on sub-continent wickets having not played in the region since the 2014 extravaganza in Bangladesh.
STRENGTHS
A huge plus point for this New Zealand side is their team ethic, cohesion and self belief. They play positive cricket, never know when they are beaten and have match winners throughout their batting lineup.
A top order of Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor can tear apart any bowling attack. Also, they have excellent fast bowlers in Tim Southee and Trent Boult who have formed a lethal combination.
WEAKNESS
Without Brendon McCullum they are at a huge disadvantage at the top of the order as he has generally set the tone across formats. Also, his inspirational leadership in the field will be sorely missed.
They are also going with a largely unproven spin attack which could prove costly in such demanding conditions in a group that already contains India and Pakistan and is likely to be joined by Bangladesh.

Cory Anderson
A one-time fastest century maker in international cricket, Anderson is a devastating hitter and more than capable with the ball if called upon.
His experience of playing in the Indian Premier League with Mumbai Indians will prove vital for both his own personal performances and in aiding his teammates in getting accustomed to conditions.

While they don’t have a recognised spinner, the Kiwis have enough firepower in their bowling to keep the opposition in check.
Also, their batsmen are in peak form and their fielding has always been their strong point. A well balanced Kiwi team is always a threat and expect a lot of fireworks from them.
