UAE coach Aaqib Javed has confirmed he will select Under-19 captain Rohit Singh and team-mate Muaz Qazi for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20.

In their first appearance at the tournament, the UAE will play group matches against Zimbabwe, Ireland and Netherlands in the 16- team competition, which is set to begin on March 16 in Bangladesh.

Ahead of the team announcement later this week, Javed, who is also the U19 coach, said Singh and Qazi will “add fresh energy” to the team.

“Both played well in the regional tournaments and did really well in the Tri-series against Pakistan and England (in December) and in the Asia Cup,” said Javed. “They have the capability and will add some fresh energy to the team.”

When asked if both players will play a full part in Bangladesh, Javed replied: “We select them not to give them experience.

“We select them because they are good enough and will add something good to the team.

“Rohit can hit the ball in difficult angles and is mentally really sharp. Muaz is a strong lad and can hit really hard. Both will be sharp on the field and improve our batting.”

Speaking of his selection, Rohit said: “It feels good. From U19 to be promoted to the senior squad it will be a learning curve for me. I have played in Asian conditions before and I’m looking forward to it.”
