Dawid Malan has been added to England’s squad ahead of the opening Twenty20 international against India at Old Trafford as cover for injured bowling all-rounder Tom Curran.

Malan missed out on initial selection despite registering four half-centuries in his first five T20s for England but will come into the reckoning on Tuesday as Curran is still recovering from a side strain.

An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesperson confirmed Curran is expected to be fit for the second and third matches in the series, at Sophia Gardens on Friday and Bristol on Sunday respectively.

Altogether, Malan has played five T20 internationals, scoring 250 runs. The hosts will go into the series with plenty of confidence after thrashing Australia 5-0 in the ODI series as well as a T20 match.

After the T20 series, the teams will meet in three ODI matches before a five-match Test series.
