England’s Sam and Tom Curran set to join special list of cricket siblings

England selected siblings Tom and Sam Curran for the T20 matches against Australia and India.

While both players have represented England at the international level, the T20 matches which begin at the end of the month will be first time the two will get an opportunity to play together for the senior England team.

In fact, the Currans are set to become the first siblings to play together for England in the 21st century after Ben and Adam Hollioake did so against Sri Lanka in 1999.

Currently in international cricket, there are only a handful of siblings playing alongside each other. Australia due of Shaun and Mitch Marsh regularly play cricket together and have done so at the Test level.

Pakistan’s Kamran and Umar Akmal were until a few years ago regular fixtures in Pakistan’s limited overs team. However, both have fallen out of favour due to varying reasons.

India’s Irfan and Yusuf Pathan too have receded from the cricketing public’s memory but were, in the last decade, critical members of the Indian team.

South Africa’s Albie and Morne Morkel looked like ruling the cricketing world together but Albie didn’t capitalise on his all-round potential whereas Morne became one of the foremost bowlers in the world.

Currently, Krunal Pandya is close to an international debut for India and if he does so, chances are he will get to play alongside brother Hardik.

In the Caribbean, we have Darren Bravo who is the younger half-brother of all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

Over to the Currans.
