India fast bowler Varun Aaron finished with six wickets in the match as Leicestershire secured a dramatic three-run victory over Glamorgan to claim their their first County Championship win in 19 attempts.

Aaron picked up 4-65 in the first innings before finishing with 2-66 in the second to help seal victory.

South African quick Marchant de Lange’s stunning 46-ball 90 had put the visitors on course for victory, but he was caught at long-on going for the winning runs as Ben Raine’s fourth wicket took Leicestershire over the line.

The game looked done and dusted after Glamorgan, needing 251 to win, subsided to 139-8.

But De Lange had other ideas, hitting eight sixes and putting on 56 with Timm van der Gugten for the ninth wicket and then 52 with last man Michael Hogan.

However, he undid all his good work when he hit a full toss from Raine high to long on where Callum Parkinson held the catch on the boundary.

The morning session had seen Leicestershire, who resumed their second innings on 119 for two, struggle from the start, losing four wickets while adding just 23 runs to their score.

Hogan had Colin Ackermann caught at first slip, before producing a superb delivery to the left-handed Mark Cosgrove which straightened from around the wicket to find the edge of the bat.

Ateeq Javid was lbw to a Hogan inswinger before Neil Dexter edged behind driving. Glamorgan’s fielding was playing a huge part in keeping up the pressure on the Leicestershire batsman, with Kiran Carlson outstanding, and when Lewis Hill was bowled off the inside edge as he attempted to force a Van der Gugten delivery through point, it looked as though Glamorgan would be chasing less than 200 to win.

Raine, however, adopted an aggressive approach that paid off as he hit two sixes on his way to 65, before holing out to deep square-leg.
