Twitter talk: Twitterati rounds on Cook captaincy

For a batsmen who has over 8,000 runs in Test cricket, Alastair Cook has been going through a phase that not many would have predicted a year back.

With only two scores of above 20 in the last 10 innings, this awful patch of form is threatening to bring the curtain down on his stunning career to date.

But this isn’t the first time its happened.

It did happen to former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly and there are striking similarities between the two: Both left handed, both skippers of their national sides.

But one thing that worked for Saurav Ganguly was that Twitter was not as big a force then as it is now.

His dismissal to Ishant Sharma has sent ripples on Twitter, with most of them opining that time has run out for him.

Former cricketers, journalists, fans, everyone turned against him, adding to the wrath he already faced from other former players before today.
