The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has constituted a five-man panel that will interview shortlisted candidates for the various coaching roles currently open for the men’s national team.

Pakistan are in the hunt for a new head coach and other supporting staff after opting not to renew the contracts of Mickey Arthur and others following the team’s fifth-place finish in the 2019 World Cup.

Former Pakistan skipper and coach Intikhab Alam, Bazid Khan, Asad Ali Khan, PCB chief executive Wasim Khan and PCB director of international cricket Zakir Khan are the five men who have been handed the responsibility of conducting the interviews.

The interviews for the head coach and bowling coach roles are set to be conducted on Thursday following which the panel will make their recommendations to PCB chairman Ehsan Mani.

Once the position of the head coach has been filled, the five-member panel will then conduct interviews for the batting coach and strength and conditioning coach roles.

The PCB has declared that it will not be revealing the names of the shortlisted candidates to maintain confidentiality although former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has been confirmed to be one of them.

Misbah recently stepped down from his official role with the PCB’s cricket committee before formally applying for the vacant Pakistan head coach job. The former batsman is being considered as the favourite to replace Arthur in the role and he is currently serving as the commandant of Pakistan’s ongoing 17-day national team training camp in Lahore.

Other names considered to be in the running for the Pakistan head coach job are Dean Jones and Mohsin Khan while Waqar Younis has applied for the bowling coach role.
