Pakistan board will look into South Africa Test series whitewash

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ehsan Mani has promised an inquiry into the team’s poor performance in the three-Test series against South Africa.

Pakistan were whitewashed 3-0 by a rampant South African attack, with fast bowler Duanne Olivier in particular unsettling Sarfraz Ahmed’s batsmen through pace and short-pitched bowling. Olivier took a record 24 wickets in the series and a major chunk of those dismissals came through bouncers, showing the lack of preparation in the Pakistan camp.

Mani said that after the tour of South Africa is over, the PCB will look into the team’s poor Test results.

“No doubt everyone is disappointed with the way our team played in the Test series in South Africa. We will do our best to find out the causes of defeat by holding an in-depth inquiry,” Mani said.

Pakistan have struggled in Test cricket at ‘home’ as well, losing series to New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the last season. According to the Press Trust of India, Mani has spoken to the head of cricket committee – Mohsin Khan – and asked him to prepare a report on the Test series sweep. According to PTI, the Pakistan board has reservation about team selection.

One of the biggest talking points during the Test series was the exclusion of seam-bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf in the first two Tests even though conditions were ideal for him.
