Former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan was sworn in as the country’s Prime Minister on Saturday.

Imran’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party emerged as the single largest party in the July national elections but fell short of a majority. It formed the government with the help of independents.

Khan – who led the team to the 1992 World Cup win – took oath on Saturday, a day after being elected by lawmakers in the national assembly.

Former India cricketers Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Navjot Sidhu were invited for the ceremony. Out of the three, only Sidhu – currently a state minister in the Punjab government – was present at the event after Gavaskar and Dev turned down the invite.
