New Zealand defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the fourth one-day international in Hamilton on Tuesday to maintain their unbeaten run against the tourists.

The hosts reached the target of 263 set by Pakistan with four overs to spare as Colin de Grandhomme top-scored with an unbeaten 74 off 40 balls.

Earlier, Trent Boult had a rare off day, going for 73 runs in his ten overs and picking up only one wicket, as Pakistan soaked up early pressure from New Zealand’s bowlers and avoided the collapses that had plagued their batting in previous matches this series. However, they were unable to accelerate at the end of the innings, and their total of 262 looked 30 to 40 runs short.

De Grandhomme’s blitz and Henry Nicholls’ steady hand ensured that despite a mid-innings wobble, the Black Caps reached their target with plenty of time to spare.

The result gives New Zealand a 4-0 lead in the five-match series, which wraps up in Wellington on Friday.

New Zealand stretched their unbeaten run across formats to 11, a new team record.
