Before the Lahore blast, negotiations were in an advanced stage between the PCB and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), with security clearance from provincial governments of Sindh and Punjab all that needed confirming.

The PCB and ACB had agreed to play matches at the National Stadium Karachi (NSK) and Gaddafi Stadium Lahore (GSL), the latter of which hosted the entire series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe in 2015.

“The PCB has asked the ACB to postpone the tour for an indefinite period due to Lahore Blast as we can’t compromise on the security situation,” a PCB official told Sport360.

“It’s important that we assess the situation and not go forward with the series immediately. Both the board had principally agreed on the tour but its unfortunate and sad what happened in Lahore few days back and in these circumstances we can’t take risk.

“But we’re hopeful as soon as the situation improves, the tour will be back on track but then we would have to create a window for it.”

Afghanistan are emerging as dark horses in world cricket after a consistent showing at the World T20, with a surprise victory against the mighty West Indies a major highlight.
