India captain Virat Kohli and veteran keeper batsman MS Dhoni are already recognised as all-time greats of ODI cricket.

Both are World Cup winners and have scored more than 10,000 runs in ODIs. And both are undisputed champions when it comes to chasing totals in 50-over cricket.

Kohli and Dhoni thrive in the pressure of a big chase and on Tuesday, showed why fans expect them to succeed almost every time they go out to bat in the second innings of a one-dayer.

Kohli scored his 39th ODI century while Dhoni remained unbeaten on 55 – his 69th fifty in the format – to steer India home to a six-wicket win chasing 299 in the Adelaide ODI against Australia to level the series.

After the stunning effort, both Kohli and Dhoni now average more than 99 in successful ODI chases.

Dhoni has scored 2,696 runs in 72 successful chases at an average of 99.85 with two tons and 18 fifties.

In 77 successful efforts in the second innings, Kohli has amassed a mind-boggling 4,853 runs at an average of 99.04 with a 21 centuries and 19 fifties.

The next best on the ODI list are Australian great Michael Bevan (averaging scoring 1,725 runs in 45 innings at 86.25) and South Africa icon AB de Villiers ( 2,566 runs in 59 innings at an average of 82.77).

Needless to day, no player in history comes close to the number of runs Kohli has scored in successful chases in ODIs.
