Up-and-coming batting star Shubman Gill has been selected to India‘s limited overs side as replacement for the suspended KL Rahul.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya and batsman Rahul have been suspended by the Indian cricket board as they try to ascertain any punishment that needs to be handed to the two for their appearance on the ‘Koffee with Karan’ TV show that landed the players, Pandya especially, in hot water for distasteful remarks about women and their personal life.

The BCCI ordered Pandya and Rahul to leave Australia and decided to send 19-year-old batsman Gill and all-rounder Vijay Shankar as replacements.

Shankar will join the team before the second ODI which begins in Adelaide on Tuesday while Gill will join the team only for the subsequent New Zealand ODI and T20 series.

It has been a meteoric rise for Gill. He was the star batsman for the Indian team in their victorious U19 World Cup campaign in 2018 and followed it up with a stupendous Ranji Trophy season for Punjab, scoring 790 runs in ten innings at an average of just under 100.
