India fast bowler Shardul Thakur gets injured in second over of his Test debut against West Indies

India fast bowler Shardul Thakur had a disastrous Test debut as he walked off the field after bowling just 1.4 overs in the second Test against the West Indies in Hyderabad on Friday.

Thakur has been a squad member of the Indian team for many series without getting a lot of game time. He played in the Asia Cup in the UAE but was ruled out of the tournament after complaining of groin soreness during the first match against Hong Kong.

Even though he played competitive cricket since, the issue has persisted with the Mumbai fast bowler managing to bowl just 1.4 overs on his Test debut before walking off the field due to a suspected groin injury.

As he grimaced in pain, team physio Patrick Farhat tried to make an assessment before the bowler walked off the ground.

If it is indeed a recurrence of the same injury, it won’t reflect well on the Indian team’s player monitoring system. All-rounder Kedar Jadhav got injured during the Asia Cup final after injuring the same hamstring that had troubled him in the past. Also, fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s back has kept him in and out of the team this year.
